Swimmers took to the chilly waters of the River Avon estuary in Devon last weekend to take part in the Bantham Swoosh -a 6km wild swim to the sea organised by the Outdoor Swimming Society. Bantham at low tide is a lovely wide open sandy beach ideal for picnics and sunbathing kite flying or sand castle building. Just compost loos taps for water and a cold water outdoor shower. This time it was camping not wild camping on Dartmoor this time much to my youngests disappointment but a camp site in north Cornwall near to Camelford. The village has Devons rural welcoming feel and hosts plenty of friendly wildlife.
Salcombe itself is a chic sailing port framed by sandy bays and packed with places to eat and stay.
